LÄTTA is a well-known brand of low-fat margarine spread that gained significant popularity in Central and Northern Europe. Originally launched in Sweden in 1984, the brand was created to meet a growing consumer demand for lighter, healthier vegetable-based spreads compared to traditional butter. Its introduction marked a shift in the food industry toward 'light' products.
Historically, the brand was a cornerstone of Unilever’s spreads portfolio. However, in 2018, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the American private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). Following this acquisition, the business was rebranded as Upfield. Today, Upfield operates as the ultimate owner, managing a global portfolio of plant-based brands from its headquarters in Amsterdam. Manufacturing for the DACH region and Northern Europe primarily takes place in dedicated facilities in Germany and neighboring countries.
