Laphroaig Select Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Laphroaig is a globally recognized Islay single malt Scotch whisky, known for its distinctively peaty and smoky flavor profile. The distillery was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston on the south coast of the Isle of Islay in Scotland. Over the centuries, it became one of the most iconic distilleries in the world, even being the only whisky to carry the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, granted by Prince Charles in 1994.

The Select expression is a unique blend of several types of casks, including Oloroso Sherry butts, white American oak, Pedro Ximénez seasoned hogsheads, and quarter casks. This specific product is distilled, aged, and bottled at the Laphroaig Distillery in Port Ellen, Scotland. The production remains deeply rooted in traditional Scottish methods, utilizing local Islay peat for kilning the malted barley.

While its heritage is Scottish, the brand is currently owned by Beam Suntory, a powerful subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Suntory Holdings Limited. The ownership transition occurred following Suntory's acquisition of Beam Inc. in 2014, making Laphroaig part of a massive global portfolio of spirits. Despite Japanese corporate ownership, the brand's identity and manufacturing processes remain strictly Scottish.
