Eir, formerly known as Eircom, is the principal provider of fixed-line and mobile telecommunications services in Ireland. The company's origins date back to the state-owned Department of Posts and Telegraphs, which later became Telecom Éireann before being privatized in 1999. It remains a cornerstone of Ireland's digital infrastructure, providing broadband, television, and mobile services across the country.

Over the decades, the company has undergone several ownership changes and restructurings, eventually rebranding as 'eir' in 2015. Today, the company is primarily controlled by a consortium led by NJJ Telecom Europe, which is the investment vehicle of French telecommunications personage Xavier Niel. This ownership has brought the brand under a broader portfolio of European telecom assets, though it continues to operate as a distinct Irish entity with its headquarters in Dublin.
