Toshiba is a historic Japanese brand with a long-standing legacy in the technology and electronics sector. Historically known for pioneering the world's first mass-market laptop, the company's manufacturing has traditionally taken place across global hubs, including China and Southeast Asia, to serve international markets. In recent years, ownership and licensing for Toshiba's consumer computing division have undergone significant changes.
Following a strategic restructuring, the majority of Toshiba's personal computer business was acquired by Sharp Corporation, which belongs to the Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) group. Today, the laptops formerly branded as Toshiba are often manufactured and marketed under the brand name Dynabook. Sharp and Foxconn leverage a vast global supply chain, predominantly located in China, to produce these devices while maintaining the technological heritage of the original Japanese brand.
