Sky TV and Broadband

Sky is a dominant force in the European media and telecommunications landscape, originally established by Rupert Murdoch's News International in 1989. Following the 1990 merger between Sky Television and British Satellite Broadcasting, the entity became British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB), evolving into a pan-European giant with operations spanning the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and Italy.

Today, Sky functions primarily as a digital entertainment provider, offering satellite television, fiber-optic broadband services, and mobile networking. While its hardware products, such as the Sky Glass television and Sky Stream pucks, are designed in the United Kingdom, they are typically manufactured by global electronics partners in Asia. Corporate operations and service delivery remain firmly rooted in its primary markets.

In 2018, Sky underwent a significant ownership shift when Comcast Corporation, the American telecommunications conglomerate, won a competitive bidding process to acquire the broadcaster. This acquisition integrated Sky into a global portfolio that includes NBCUniversal. Sky continues to operate as a subsidiary of Comcast, maintaining its headquarters in Osterley, London, while benefiting from the technological and financial scale of its US-based parent company.
