Sal de Añana is a premium mineral salt harvested from the Valley of Salt in Añana, located in the Basque Country of northern Spain. The history of this salt production dates back over 6,500 years, making it one of the oldest salt works in the world. The salt is produced through natural evaporation of brine that emerges from ancient underground solid salt diapirs, using traditional wooden platforms and channels known as 'eras'.
The brand is deeply rooted in local heritage and sustainable craftsmanship. Unlike industrial salt, Sal de Añana is harvested manually by 'salineros' (salt makers) who maintain the historic infrastructure. The production is managed by a dedicated foundation that focuses on the recovery of the landscape and the cultural heritage of the area, ensuring that every grain of salt supports the preservation of this unique historical site.
