The brand started as a 'textile supermarket' in Alphen aan den Rijn, focusing on high-quality basics and household textiles at the lowest possible price. This unique discount model allowed the company to grow rapidly across Europe, becoming a household name in the Netherlands and beyond.

Today, Zeeman operates over 1,300 stores across countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and Spain. The company does not own any factories; instead, it sources its products from multiple countries, primarily in Asia (such as Bangladesh, China, and India) and Turkey, emphasizing sustainable and ethical sourcing through its participation in the Fair Wear Foundation.

The brand remains a private entity, with the Zeeman family retaining ownership after Jan Zeeman stepped down from active management. It is managed under the umbrella of Zeeman Groep B.V., which oversees the retail operations and logistics from their headquarters in Alphen aan den Rijn.
