Aquarius is a mineral-enriched beverage originally created in Japan by The Coca-Cola Company in 1978 and officially launched in 1983. It was designed to provide hydration and replenish electrolytes, specifically as a competitor to other functional waters. The brand gained significant international prominence after being introduced to the European market, particularly in Spain and Portugal, in 1991, and serving as the official drink of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

While the brand has Japanese roots, it is a global entity owned by The Coca-Cola Company. In Spain and the rest of Europe, manufacturing is handled by local bottling partners, primarily Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP). CCEP operates several large-scale production facilities across Spain, including major plants in Barcelona (Martorelles), Seville, Madrid, and Valencia, where Aquarius is bottled for local distribution. This decentralized production model ensures that over 90% of the products sold are manufactured in the country where they are consumed.
