Mey içki

Mey içki is a major Turkish beverage company primarily known for producing Rakı, the national spirit of Turkey. The company was founded in 2004 through the privatization of the alcohol division of Tekel, the former Turkish state monopoly on salt, tobacco, and alcohol. This transition marked a significant shift from state control to private enterprise in the Turkish spirits market.

In 2006, Mey içki was acquired by the US-based private equity firm TPG Capital. Following its expansion and modernization under private ownership, the brand was subsequently purchased by Diageo in 2011. Today, it operates as a key Turkish subsidiary within Diageo's global portfolio, maintaining its cultural heritage while leveraging international distribution channels and modern manufacturing standards in Turkey.
