Rolo chocolates

Rolo is a widely recognized brand of cone-shaped chocolates with a soft caramel center. It was originally created by Mackintosh's in the United Kingdom in 1937. The product has since become a global staple in the confectionery market, known for its iconic 'roll' packaging.

Today, the ownership and manufacturing of Rolo are split geographically. Outside of the United States, the brand is owned by the Swiss multi-national Nestlé, which produces the candy in factories located in various countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada. However, in the United States, the brand is produced by The Hershey Company under a long-standing licensing agreement.

The brand's history is tied to the consolidation of the British candy industry, where Mackintosh's eventually merged with Rowntree's to form Rowntree Mackintosh, which was later acquired by Nestlé in 1988. This complex ownership structure makes it a unique example of a global brand with different corporate masters depending on the region of sale.
