Ezetrol (Ezetimibe)

Ezetrol, known generically as ezetimibe, is a lipid-lowering medication used to lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting its absorption in the small intestine. It was originally developed through a research collaboration between Schering-Plough and Merck & Co. Following the merger of these two pharmaceutical giants in 2009, the product became a core part of the Merck portfolio.

Today, Ezetrol is manufactured in several high-tech pharmaceutical facilities globally to meet international demand. While Merck & Co. (known as MSD outside the US and Canada) retains deep historical ties to the brand, many of its established legacy brands, including Ezetrol, were spun off into a new independent company named Organon in 2021. Organon now handles the global commercialization and distribution of the product, focusing on women's health and long-term established medicines.
