Founded in 1996 in Riga, Latvia, MikroTik (officially SIA Mikrotīkls) has grown into a global leader in the networking equipment industry. The brand was established by John Tully and Arnis Riekstiņš with the goal of making internet technologies faster, more powerful, and affordable. Initially focused on developing RouterOS software for standard PC hardware, the company expanded in 2002 to create its own dedicated hardware line under the RouterBOARD brand.

Today, MikroTik maintains a unique position as a major private tech company that remains independent of external venture capital. While the core engineering and significant manufacturing take place in Latvia and other Baltic states like Lithuania to ensure EU quality standards, the company utilizes a global supply chain with additional assembly and component sourcing in China, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
