Xiaomi is a diverse global technology brand that has rapidly evolved from a smartphone manufacturer into a comprehensive consumer electronics ecosystem. Founded in Beijing, the brand operates under a unique 'hardware at cost' model, generating much of its revenue through its software and services integrated into its MIUI/HyperOS ecosystem.
While the majority of Xiaomi's advanced products are manufactured in high-tech facilities across China, the company has expanded its manufacturing footprint significantly to meet local demands and trade regulations. This includes large-scale assembly plants in India for the South Asian market and facilities in Vietnam for Southeast Asian distribution. Despite this geographic spread, the core research, development, and design remain centralized in China.
As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, Xiaomi remains an independent, publicly-traded entity on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It is not owned by a larger conglomerate but instead operates as its own ultimate parent company, overseeing a vast network of partner startups known as the Mi Ecosystem to produce its wide array of lifestyle and smart home products.
