Jeep is one of the world's most iconic automotive brands, tracing its origins back to World War II. It was born out of a military requirement for a light reconnaissance vehicle, leading to the creation of the Willys MB in 1941. Over the decades, the brand transitioned from rugged military use to a civilian favorite, establishing the modern SUV segment.
Today, Jeep is a global brand with a diverse manufacturing footprint. While its spiritual home remains in the United States, particularly at the Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio, Jeep vehicles are also manufactured in countries such as Italy, Brazil, China, India, and Mexico to serve international markets. This global production strategy allows the brand to maintain its position as a leader in the 4x4 and off-road vehicle categories.
Ownership of the Jeep brand has changed hands several times throughout its history, moving from Willys-Overland to Kaiser-Jeep, American Motors Corporation (AMC), and then Chrysler. Following subsequent mergers involving Daimler and Fiat, Jeep is now a cornerstone brand of Stellantis N.V. Stellantis was formed in 2021 through the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the PSA Group, creating one of the world's largest automotive conglomerates headquartered in the Netherlands.
