Ovaltine (known as Ovomaltine in Switzerland and parts of Europe) is a world-renowned brand of milk flavoring product made with malt extract, sugar, and whey. It was originally developed in Bern, Switzerland, in 1904 by pharmacist Dr. Albert Wander. The product in the image is the Crunchy Cream spread, which is primarily manufactured in Switzerland at the Wander AG facility. For decades, the brand was a staple of Swiss heritage, but the ownership landscape has shifted over time.
In 2002, the Swiss company Wander AG was acquired by Associated British Foods (ABF). Today, Ovaltine and Ovomaltine are managed globally by Twinings (a subsidiary of ABF) or local partners, with the ultimate ownership resting with the British conglomerate Associated British Foods. Despite this international ownership, the brand maintains its strong Swiss identity and continues to produce high-quality malt-based products that are distributed globally.
