HP, or Hewlett-Packard, is one of the most iconic names in the history of Silicon Valley. Founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, the brand began in a garage in Palo Alto, California. It revolutionized the technology sector by producing precision electronic instruments before eventually expanding into the printing and personal computing markets that define its contemporary identity.

While HP remains an American company headquartered in Palo Alto, its manufacturing is globally distributed. Most HP products are assembled in China, but the company also maintains production facilities and assembly lines in various other countries including Mexico, Vietnam, and India to manage its diverse supply chain and serve international markets.

In 2015, the original Hewlett-Packard Company split into two distinct entities: HP Inc., which focuses on personal computers and printers, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), which handles corporate cloud and server services. The products bearing the standard HP logo are owned and operated by HP Inc., which continues to be a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange.
