Philips Consumer Electronics and Lighting

Philips, founded in 1891 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, by Gerard Philips and his father Frederik, initially focused on carbon-filament lamps. Over more than a century, it evolved into a global powerhouse in electronics, healthcare, and lighting. The brand is synonymous with innovation, having introduced the compact cassette, the CD, and pioneering medical imaging technology.

Today, the 'Philips' brand is managed through a complex structure of licensing and focused business units. While the original parent company, Koninklijke Philips N.V., now focuses almost exclusively on Health Technology, the consumer electronics and television divisions are primarily operated under license by TPV Technology. Similarly, the lighting division was spun off into Signify N.V., which continues to use the Philips brand for its lighting products globally. Manufacturing is distributed across a massive global network, with major production hubs in Europe, China, and North America.
