Birkenstock is a historic German footwear brand known globally for its anatomical cork footbeds. The Boston clog, featured in the image, is one of its most iconic designs. The brand traces its roots back to 1774 when Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as a 'subject and shoemaker' in Langen-Bergheim, Germany.

While the brand remained family-owned for centuries, a major shift occurred in 2021 when a majority stake was acquired by L Catterton and Financière Agache, firms backed by the French luxury conglomerate LVMH. Despite this international ownership through LVMH-linked investment vehicles, Birkenstock maintains its manufacturing heart in Germany, where the vast majority of its products are crafted in specialized facilities.
