Technological and financial shifts led the Spanish government to sell control to the Volkswagen Group in the 1980s. Today, SEAT operates as a key brand within the Volkswagen portfolio, with its historic headquarters and primary manufacturing facility remaining in Martorell, Spain. While many models are still produced in Spain, the brand leverages the Volkswagen Group's global infrastructure, meaning some models or shared platforms are manufactured in other European countries like Germany or the Czech Republic.
