Pedras Salgadas natural sparkling mineral water

Pedras Salgadas, commonly known simply as Pedras, is a legendary Portuguese brand of naturally carbonated mineral water. Its history stretches back to the Roman Empire, when the therapeutic properties of the springs in the Vila Pouca de Aguiar region were first recognized. Commercial exploitation officially began in 1871, and the water gained international acclaim, even being a favorite of the Portuguese royal family in the late 19th century.

The water is sourced and bottled at the Pedras Salgadas springs in northern Portugal. It is rare among bottled waters because its carbonation is 100% natural, occurring as the water filters through granite rock layers over a period of about ten years before being captured. Unlike many sparkling waters, no artificial carbon dioxide is added.

Since 2002, the brand has been part of the Super Bock Group (formerly known as Unicer). The group is the leading beverage company in Portugal. As of 2026, the ownership of the Super Bock Group is a joint venture between the Portuguese VIACER Group, which holds a 56% majority stake, and the Danish multinational Carlsberg Group, which owns the remaining 44%.
