Timișoreana is Romania's best-selling beer brand with a legacy dating back to 1718. It was established in Timișoara by the Austrian military administration led by Prince Eugene of Savoy, originally intended to provide safe drinking water and serve the local garrison. It holds the distinction of being the first brewery in Romania and has maintained a consistent presence in the market for over three centuries.
Today, the brand is a cornerstone of the Romanian beer industry. While it remains deeply rooted in its local heritage, its ownership has transitioned through various international beverage conglomerates following the end of the state-controlled era. It is currently the flagship brand of Ursus Breweries, which manages production across several state-of-the-art facilities in Romania.
As of 2017 and looking forward, the ultimate ownership lies with the Japanese multinational Asahi Group Holdings. This transition occurred when AB InBev divested its Central and Eastern European assets following its acquisition of SABMiller. Under Asahi's stewardship, Timișoreana continues to be produced using traditional recipes combined with modern brewing technology to maintain its status as a premier national lager.
