Cannondale is a premier American bicycle brand that revolutionized the industry with its early adoption of aluminum and carbon fiber frames. Founded in 1971 in a loft above a pickle factory in Wilton, Connecticut, the company initially produced outdoor gear and bicycle trailers before launching its first bicycle, the ST500, in 1983. Known for its 'Legendary Aluminum' and unconventional engineering, such as the single-sided 'Lefty' suspension fork, Cannondale has remained at the forefront of high-performance cycling.

Over the decades, ownership of the brand has transitioned from its original founders to various investment groups. In 2008, it became a major part of Dorel Industries' Sports segment. However, in early 2022, the brand was acquired by Pon Holdings, a massive Dutch conglomerate that owns a diverse portfolio of leading bicycle brands. While the engineering and design continue to have a strong presence in the United States, the majority of industrial-scale manufacturing is carried out in specialized facilities in Taiwan and Vietnam to serve the global market.
