FatFace is a well-known British lifestyle brand that originated in 1988. It was founded by Tim Slade and Jules Leaver, who began by selling printed sweatshirts out of the back of a campervan in Méribel, France, to fund their skiing lifestyle. The brand name itself is a tribute to the Face de Bellevarde slope in Val d'Isère. From its humble beginnings as a surf and ski-inspired clothing line, it grew into a major retail presence across the United Kingdom and internationally.

While the brand was born from the French Alps and British entrepreneurship, its manufacturing is now global. Like many international fashion retailers, FatFace sources its products from multiple countries, including manufacturing hubs in Turkey, India, Bangladesh, and China, to manage its diverse range of high-quality casual wear, footwear, and accessories.

In terms of ownership, FatFace underwent a significant transition in recent years. In October 2023, the brand was acquired by the British multinational retailer NEXT plc. This acquisition integrated FatFace into the NEXT Total Platform, leveraging the larger company's extensive distribution and online infrastructure while allowing FatFace to maintain its distinct brand identity and creative autonomy. The brand remains headquartered in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, under the umbrella of its parent company.
