While Pelikan originated as a German independent company, it underwent significant ownership changes, notably being owned for decades by the Malaysian-based Pelikan International Corporation Berhad (PICB). However, as of late 2023 and moving into 2024 and beyond, the brand was acquired by the French stationery giant Hamelin (Holdham SAS). This acquisition integrates Pelikan's premium writing and office tools into Hamelin's global portfolio alongside brands like Oxford.
