The Philips Café Gaia is a drip coffee maker manufactured by the Philips Domestic Appliances division. Although Philips is a historic Dutch company originally founded in Eindhoven in 1891, the ownership structure of its household appliance sector has changed fundamentally.
In 2021, Royal Philips sold its Domestic Appliances business (which includes coffee makers, air fryers, and irons) to Hillhouse Investment, a global private equity firm. This division now operates under the corporate name Versuni. While the products continue to carry the Philips brand name under a long-term licensing agreement, the ultimate strategic and financial ownership resides with Hillhouse Investment, headquartered in Singapore. Manufacturing for these appliances is predominantly centralized in high-scale facilities in China to serve global markets.
