Oakley is a globally recognized lifestyle and performance brand that was founded in 1975 by James Jannard in his garage in California. Initially, the brand specialized in unique motorcycle grips before expanding into goggles, eyewear, and athletic apparel. Oakley became a pioneer in the sports eyewear industry by merging high-performance optics with distinctive, futuristic aesthetic designs.
Today, Oakley's production is highly international. While high-end models and custom orders are frequently manufactured at the brand's 'Interplanetary Headquarters' in Foothill Ranch, California, or in Italian facilities, various components and lifestyle models are produced in other regions including China and Brazil. Since its acquisition in 2007, the brand has been integrated into one of the world's largest optical conglomerates.
Ownership currently lies with EssilorLuxottica, a French-Italian multinational corporation formed by the 2018 merger of the Italian Luxottica and the French Essilor. This powerhouse controls every stage of the product lifecycle, from research and development to global distribution and retail through chains like Sunglass Hut, ensuring Oakley remains a dominant force in the sports and fashion sectors through 2026 and beyond.
