Burger King fast food chain

Burger King is a globally recognized American fast food chain specializing in flame-grilled hamburgers, particularly the Whopper, which has been a signature item since 1957. Founded in 1953 as Insta-Burger King in Jacksonville, Florida, the company faced financial difficulties and was acquired by Miami-based franchisees James McLamore and David Edgerton in 1959, who rebranded it as Burger King. Over the years, Burger King underwent several ownership changes, including a significant acquisition by the Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital in 2010. In 2014, 3G Capital merged Burger King with the Canadian coffeehouse chain Tim Hortons to form Restaurant Brands International (RBI), a Canadian-American multinational fast food holding company. RBI also owns Popeyes and Firehouse Subs. As of 2024, Burger King operates over 19,000 restaurants worldwide, with the majority being franchised.
