Salling Group is Denmark's largest retail conglomerate, operating a diverse range of stores including supermarkets, department stores, and discount outlets. Founded in 1906 by Ferdinand Salling as a draper's shop in Aarhus, the company has evolved significantly over the decades. In 1960, Ferdinand's son, Herman Salling, expanded the business by opening Denmark's first supermarket, føtex. This expansion continued with the introduction of Bilka in 1970 and Netto in 1981, solidifying the company's presence in the retail sector. In 2017, the Salling Foundations, comprising Købmand Herman Salling’s Foundation and Købmand Ferdinand Salling’s Memorial Foundation, reacquired full ownership of the company, leading to its rebranding as Salling Group. This ownership structure ensures that profits are reinvested into the company or donated to various charitable causes through the foundations. Today, Salling Group operates over 2,100 stores under various brands, including Bilka, føtex, Netto, and Salling department stores, serving millions of customers weekly.
