Union Pivo beer

Union Pivo is a renowned Slovenian beer brand produced by Union Brewery, established in 1864 in Ljubljana. The brewery was founded as a small family business by Ivan and Peter Kosler, initially known as Kosler Brewery. In 1909, the Kosler brothers expanded their operations by forming Pivovarna Union, a joint-stock company, in collaboration with Reininghaus AG and Puntigam Brewery from Graz, Austria. This strategic move allowed Union Brewery to increase its production capacity and market reach within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Over the years, Union Brewery expanded its operations by acquiring several smaller Slovenian breweries, including the Auer and Perless breweries in Ljubljana (1910), the Perless Brewery in Kočevje (1911), the Smidt Brewery in Škofja Loka (1912), the Mayr Brewery in Kranj (1916), the Zimmerman Brewery in Lesce (1916), the Brewery of Mengeš (1917), the Frählich Brewery in Vrhnika (1918), Pivovarna Laško (1924), and the Thomas Gatz Brewery in Maribor (1926). These acquisitions consolidated Union Brewery's position as a leading beer producer in the region. In 1946, following World War II, the brewery was nationalized as part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Despite the challenges of the era, Union Brewery continued to thrive, producing over 220,000 hectoliters of beer by 1963. In 2005, Laško Brewery acquired a majority stake in Union Brewery, and in 2015, Heineken International took control by acquiring a majority stake in Laško Brewery. The merger of Laško and Union Brewery in 2016 resulted in the formation of Pivovarna Laško Union, operating under Heineken's ownership. Today, Union Pivo remains a popular beer choice in Slovenia and is exported to various international markets.
