CeraVe is a globally recognized skincare brand founded in 2005 in the United States by a group of dermatologists. The brand's unique identity is built around the inclusion of three essential ceramides (1, 3, and 6-II) and its patented MultiVesicular Emulsion (MVE) technology, which provides long-lasting hydration. Originally developed under the pharmaceutical umbrella of Bausch Health (formerly Valeant Pharmaceuticals), CeraVe was created to address skin barrier issues in a clinical setting before transitioning into a retail powerhouse.
In 2017, the brand was acquired by the French cosmetics giant L'Oréal in a $1.3 billion deal, becoming part of its L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty division. This acquisition facilitated rapid international expansion, with the brand launching in the UK in 2018. While the core manufacturing facilities are located in the United States and France to ensure pharmaceutical-grade quality, production has expanded to other regions, including China, to meet high demand in specific local markets like Australia and Asia. Today, CeraVe remains a subsidiary of L'Oréal, which is headquartered in France and maintains a complex ownership structure that includes a significant investment stake from Nestlé.
