Branston Pickle

Branston Pickle is a quintessentially British condiment, first produced in 1922 in the village of Branston, Staffordshire, by the historic food company Crosse & Blackwell. The product was originally developed based on Indian-style pickles and chutneys that had become popular in Britain during the Raj era. Over the decades, it has become a staple of the British diet, famously served as part of a 'ploughman's lunch' and a classic accompaniment to cheese sandwiches.

While the brand moved through several hands—including ownership by Nestlé and later Premier Foods—it has maintained its production roots in the United Kingdom. Since 2004, the primary manufacturing site has been located in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. In 2013, the brand was acquired by the Mizkan Group, a Japanese family-owned company specializing in vinegars and seasonings. Despite the change to Japanese ownership, Branston remains deeply tied to its British identity, with manufacturing remaining in Suffolk and the iconic 'Bring out the Branston' slogan continuing to lead its marketing efforts.
