Founded in 1956 in Burgos, Spain, by José Luis Ballvé, Campofrío has grown from a local meat processor into a leading name in the European food industry. The brand is synonymous with high-quality Spanish meat traditions, specializing in jamón, cooked hams, and sausages. Over the decades, it expanded its footprint across Europe through strategic acquisitions and modern production facilities.
In 2013-2014, the brand underwent a significant ownership shift when it was acquired by the Mexican global food giant Sigma Alimentos. Today, Campofrío operates as a flagship brand within Sigma's European division, maintaining its primary production hubs in Spain—including a state-of-the-art facility in Burgos—while benefiting from the global distribution network and financial backing of its Mexican parent company. This partnership has allowed the brand to modernize its portfolio to include healthier alternatives and snacking options while preserving its Spanish heritage.
