Charles F. Thwing (1853–1937) was an influential American educator and theologian who served as the president of Western Reserve University from 1890 to 1921. Under his leadership, the university expanded significantly, adding schools of library science, applied social sciences, law, dentistry, pharmacy, education, and a graduate school. Thwing was instrumental in fostering a close relationship between Western Reserve University and the Case School of Applied Science, leading to a cooperative program that allowed students to earn degrees from both institutions. In recognition of his contributions, the university named its Euclid Avenue library building Thwing Hall in 1934, and the renovated student center was named the Charles F. Thwing Center in 1980.
