Godiva Chocolatier was founded in Brussels, Belgium, in 1926 by Pierre Draps. The brand was named after the legend of Lady Godiva and quickly became synonymous with luxury Belgian chocolate. For decades, it maintained its reputation for high-quality craftsmanship, traditional recipes, and iconic gold packaging. While the brand started as a family-run boutique, it eventually expanded into a global powerhouse in the premium confectionery market.

Over the years, the ownership of Godiva has transitioned through several major corporations. It was acquired by the American company Campbell Soup Company in the late 1960s, which helped solidify its presence in the United States and global markets. In 2008, the brand was sold to Yıldız Holding, a massive Turkish conglomerate. Under Yıldız Holding's leadership, Godiva expanded its retail footprint and diversified its product lines.

Today, manufactured products come primarily from two major facilities: one in Brussels, Belgium, which serves the international market, and another in Reading, Pennsylvania, which produces for North America. In 2021, MBK Partners acquired Godiva's operations in South Korea, Japan, and Australia, though Yıldız Holding remains the ultimate owner of the brand's global identity and several key regions including North America and the Middle East.
