Chouffe is a renowned Belgian craft beer brand that originated in 1982 in the village of Achouffe, located in the Ardennes region of Belgium. The brand was founded by two brothers-in-law, Pierre Gobron and Chris Bauweraerts, who began brewing beer as a hobby in a garage. Their first batch, produced on August 27, 1982, yielded 49 liters. Over the years, Chouffe has grown into an iconic brand, known for its distinctive gnome imagery on the labels, which pays homage to local folklore. In 2006, Chouffe was acquired by Duvel Moortgat Brewery, a prominent Belgian brewing company. This acquisition allowed Chouffe to expand its reach while maintaining its Belgian roots. To adapt to the U.S. market and mitigate the impact of increased import tariffs, Duvel Moortgat began brewing Chouffe beer in Missouri, USA, in late 2024. This strategic move ensures better availability for American consumers while preserving the brand's Belgian heritage.
