Alpro is a pioneering brand in the plant-based food industry, renowned for its wide range of dairy alternatives including soya, almond, oat, and coconut-based products. The brand originated in Belgium in 1980, founded by the Vandemoortele Group as a way to create sustainable, plant-based nutrition.
Over the decades, Alpro has expanded its reach significantly across Europe and the globe. Its production facilities are located in several European countries, including its main factory in Wevelgem, Belgium, as well as sites in the United Kingdom and France. This allows the brand to maintain a robust supply chain to meet the high demand for vegan and vegetarian-friendly beverages.
In terms of ownership, Alpro was acquired by Danone in 2017 as part of Danone's acquisition of the American company WhiteWave Foods. Today, Danone, a French multinational food-products corporation, serves as the ultimate owner. This integration has helped Alpro leverage Danone's global distribution network while continuing to push for sustainability and plant-based innovation.
