o.b. is one of the most recognized brands in menstrual hygiene, famous for its applicator-free design. The brand was invented in Germany in 1950 by gynecologist Dr. Judith Esser and engineer Carl Hahn. The name "o.b." is an abbreviation of the German phrase "ohne Binde," which translates to "without napkin."
Originally developed by the German company Carl Hahn GmbH, the brand was acquired by the American multinational Johnson & Johnson in 1974. In recent years, as part of a corporate restructuring, Johnson & Johnson spun off its consumer health division into a new independent company called Kenvue. As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, o.b. is owned by Kenvue, which is headquartered in the United States.
Manufacturing for the European and international markets is primarily concentrated in specialized facilities in France and Germany, ensuring high quality and safety standards for personal hygiene products. The brand continues to focus on comfort and sustainability through its compact, non-applicator design.
