Gevalia is a historic coffee brand that originated in Gävle, Sweden, in 1853. The name itself is derived from the Latin name for its home city. Originally established by Victor Theodor Engwall, the company spent over a century as a family-run business before being acquired by General Foods in 1971. Today, Gevalia is recognized as the largest coffee roastery in Scandinavia and holds a prestigious position as a Purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden.

The manufacturing of Gevalia coffee, including the 'Gold Mellanrost' (Medium Roast), is primarily centered at its large-scale roastery in Gävle, Sweden. While the raw coffee beans are sourced globally from regions like South America and East Africa, the roasting and packaging for the European market take place in Sweden. Ownership of the brand is split geographically: in North America, it is owned by Kraft Heinz, while in Europe and the rest of the world, it is owned by JDE Peet’s, a global leader in the coffee and tea industry.
