Ambrosia is a quintessential British brand with a legacy dating back to 1917. Originally founded by Alfred Morris in the village of Lifton, Devon, the brand first gained prominence by producing dried milk for infants and later for soldiers during World War I. Today, it is most famous for its 'creamy' range of custards and rice puddings, which are still manufactured at the historic Lifton creamery using milk sourced from local West Country farms.

The brand has recently expanded its portfolio to include modern convenience items like the 'Ready to Eat Porridge' pots, which launched around 2022 to cater to the breakfast-on-the-go market. These products maintain the brand's heritage of creaminess while introducing fruit layers and wholegrain oats. Ownership of Ambrosia has changed hands several times, moving from the original family to Colman's in 1990, then to Unilever, and finally being acquired by Premier Foods in 2003. As of 2026, Premier Foods remains the ultimate owner, continuing to invest heavily in the Devon production site to support both tradition and new product innovation.
