Arla is a globally recognized dairy brand with deep roots in Scandinavian cooperative farming. The brand's heritage dates back to the 1880s, when dairy farmers in Denmark and Sweden formed small cooperatives to collectively process and market their milk. The modern entity, Arla Foods amba, was established on April 17, 2000, through the significant merger of the Swedish cooperative Arla and the Danish dairy company MD Foods.
Today, Arla stands as one of the world's largest dairy companies and remains a cooperative owned by more than 12,000 farmers across seven European countries (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg). Its manufacturing operations are strictly global, with major production sites located in Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States (specifically in Wisconsin). The company has also expanded its manufacturing footprint to regions like the Middle East, with a significant production hub in Bahrain.
