Borkum Riff is a world-renowned brand of pipe tobacco that originated in Sweden during the 1960s. The brand was named after a famous lighthouse and lightship located in the Heligoland Bay off the Dutch coast, which was a well-known landmark for Swedish sailors and radio listeners. Originally developed by Bertil Sandegård for Swedish Match, the brand was specifically designed to appeal to the international market, particularly the United States.

While the brand has Swedish roots and was initially produced by Mac Baren for Swedish Match, its manufacturing has since shifted. Today, Borkum Riff is produced in Denmark at the Orlik factory. The brand's success skyrocketed in the late 1960s with the introduction of its iconic Bourbon Whiskey blend, and it has since expanded its portfolio to include various aromatic mixtures like Cherry Cavendish and Vanilla.

In 2011, the ownership of Borkum Riff transitioned to the Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) following its acquisition of Lane Limited and the merger of tobacco businesses. STG, headquartered in Denmark, remains the ultimate owner and global distributor of the brand, maintaining its status as one of the leading names in the pipe tobacco industry.
