HP Sauce The Original

HP Sauce is an iconic British brown sauce with a history dating back to 1895, when it was invented by Frederick Gibson Garton, a grocer from Nottingham. The name 'HP' stands for the Houses of Parliament, as it was rumored that the sauce was served in the parliamentary dining rooms at the turn of the 20th century. For over 100 years, the product was synonymous with British manufacturing, famously produced at the Aston Cross factory in Birmingham.

In 2005, the brand was acquired by H.J. Heinz from the French company Groupe Danone. Following the acquisition, Heinz controversially moved production from the United Kingdom to its facility in Elst, Netherlands, in 2007. This move sparked significant public debate and even protests in the British Parliament due to the loss of local jobs and the brand's cultural status as a British staple.

Today, the brand is part of the global portfolio of The Kraft Heinz Company, which was formed by the 2015 merger of Kraft Foods and H.J. Heinz. Despite its Dutch manufacturing location, it remains the market leader for brown sauce in the UK and continues to feature the Houses of Parliament on its labeling.
