The brand's history dates back to 1906 when Will Keith Kellogg founded the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in Michigan, USA. Since then, it has evolved from a small health-food venture into a global breakfast staple.

Manufacturing for Coco Pops occurs in various international facilities to serve different markets. Major production sites include the historical Trafford Park plant in the United Kingdom, as well as facilities in Australia, Thailand, and various locations across Europe and North America. In late 2023, the original Kellogg Company split into two entities: WK Kellogg Co, which handles North American cereal operations, and Kellanova, which manages the global snacking and international cereal business.

As of late 2025 and moving into 2026, the ownership landscape has shifted significantly. The international business (Kellanova), which includes the Coco Pops brand in most markets outside North America, has been acquired by Mars, Incorporated. Meanwhile, the North American cereal division (WK Kellogg Co) was acquired by the Ferrero Group, making the ultimate ownership dependent on the specific region where the box is sold.
