Sanyo RP-8260 portable radio

The Sanyo RP-8260 is a vintage 4-band portable radio produced in the late 1970s. This model features a classic silver and grey design with a prominent round analog tuning and battery indicator. It covers four frequency bands: FM, Shortwave (SW), Medium Wave (MW/AM), and Long Wave (LW), making it a versatile receiver for its era. The front panel includes dedicated switches for AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) and Power, alongside a sliding band selector.

Originally founded in Japan in 1947 by Toshio Iue, Sanyo Electric Co. became a global leader in consumer electronics and batteries. During the 1970s and 1980s, much of their high-quality portable audio equipment, including the RP-8260, was manufactured in Singapore to leverage the region's growing electronics production hub. Following financial challenges in the late 2000s, Sanyo was acquired by Panasonic, and by 2012, its consumer electronics operations were fully integrated into the Panasonic Corporation. Today, the Sanyo brand primarily exists as a legacy name or is used for specific licensing agreements, with Panasonic remaining the ultimate corporate owner.
