Trapa is one of Spain's most historic chocolate brands, with its roots stretching back to 1891 when Cistercian monks at the Trappist Monastery in Palencia began crafting artisanal chocolates. After decades of monastic production, the factory and its secret formulas were sold in the 1960s, leading to the formation of the modern company.

Today, Trapa is recognized for its commitment to modern dietary trends, producing chocolates that are gluten-free and entirely free from palm oil. The brand has passed through several hands, including the Rumasa Group, before being acquired by Europraliné (linked to the Lacasa family) in 2013. The company maintains its primary manufacturing facility in San Isidro de Dueñas, Palencia, where it combines traditional expertise with modern production techniques to serve markets in over 50 countries.
