Nkuku is a British lifestyle and homeware brand founded in 2003 by Alistair and Alex Cooke. The brand's origin story began during a year-long world trip, where the founders were inspired by the craftsmanship of artisans in Africa and India. The name 'Nkuku' was actually borrowed from a village the couple passed through in Zambia.
The company is deeply committed to ethical and sustainable practices, operating as a Certified B Corporation. Its product range is extensive, covering everything from kitchenware and tableware to furniture and lighting.
Nkuku products are primarily handmade by artisans in various locations worldwide, with a significant portion of their production occurring in India. They focus on using sustainable and recycled materials, such as reclaimed wood, recycled glass, and eco-friendly metals like brass and iron. In 2021, the brand was acquired by Bridges Fund Management, a specialist sustainable and impact investor, to support its continued growth in the ethical consumer market.
