Stroh 80 Original Inländer Rum

Stroh 80 is an iconic Austrian high-proof spirit, specifically classified as 'Inländer Rum.' Unlike traditional rum made from sugarcane in tropical regions, Inländer Rum originated in the Austro-Hungarian Empire as a domestic alternative. Historically, it was produced from sugar beet alcohol and flavored with traditional essences to mimic the taste of Caribbean rum, creating a unique spiced character that has since become a protected geographical indication in Europe.

The brand was founded in 1832 by Sebastian Stroh in Klagenfurt, Carinthia. It remains a deeply rooted Austrian brand, with its production facilities still located in Klagenfurt. Today, Stroh is the most famous Austrian spirits brand internationally, exported to over 40 countries and widely used in traditional Alpine cuisine, cocktails, and warm beverages like Jagertee.

Following a period of ownership by larger corporate groups (including Eckes and Stock Spirits), the company returned to Austrian ownership in 2008 through a management buy-out led by Harold Burstein. It is currently operated as an independent private company, maintaining its heritage as 'The Spirit of Austria.'
