Philips, founded in 1891 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, began as a manufacturer of carbon-filament lamps and evolved into one of the world's largest electronics conglomerates. Historically, it covered everything from audio-visual entertainment to lighting and healthcare.

Starting in the late 2010s, the company underwent a major strategic transformation, spinning off its legacy divisions to focus exclusively on health technology. Today, while the 'Philips' brand remains prominent across various categories, the ownership is fragmented. The lighting division (Philips Hue) operates under Signify N.V., the domestic appliances division (coffee makers, air fryers) was sold to Hillhouse Investment, and the television and audio products are managed by TPV Technology. The core Philips company now primarily focuses on medical diagnostic and monitoring equipment.
