Mills Kaviar is an iconic Norwegian food product that has been a staple on Scandinavian breakfast tables since its launch in 1952. The product is a smoked cod roe paste, specifically made from 'skreirogn' (the roe of the Arctic cod), which is sourced from the cold, clear waters off the coast of Northern Norway. The production process involves a unique form of craftsmanship where the roe is matured and smoked over beechwood to achieve its signature savory, umami-rich flavor.
The brand is owned by Mills AS, a storied Norwegian company founded in 1885 by K.K. Heje. Originally established as the Agra Margarine Factory in Oslo, the company evolved into a diverse food producer. Today, Mills AS remains a private, family-owned enterprise under the Agra Group, headquartered in Oslo. While many historic brands have been consolidated into multinational conglomerates, Mills regained its full independence in 2015 when the family repurchased outstanding shares from Unilever, ensuring the brand remains 100% Norwegian-owned.
