Rama is a historic brand that has been a staple in European households for a century. The success story of Rama began in the late 19th century when the German butter merchant Jan Jurgens acquired a patent for margarine. In 1924, Deutsche Jurgenswerke AG united its various margarine products under the name "Rahma," which was later changed to "Rama" to avoid confusion with dairy cream products. The brand's iconic mascot, Jule, the lady with the hat, has been part of its identity since the early days.

Over the decades, Rama was developed as a flagship brand under Unilever. However, in 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to the private equity firm KKR, which established the company Upfield to manage these assets. In 2024, Upfield rebranded as Flora Food Group. The product shown, Rama 100% pflanzlich, represents the brand's modern shift toward purely plant-based and vegan offerings, emphasizing sustainable ingredients and the removal of animal products while maintaining its classic reputation for spreadability. Production is centralized in several European facilities, with a strong focus on Germany for the DACH market.
